Sorry, our shop is closed to visitors at the moment
After 20 years or more of being open to the public we had to close due to COVID in March 2020. While our shop doors are still closed, our loyal and growing customer base remains at the heart of our family business.
Not all is lost, we have had an exciting journey giving the virtual world a go, and all our efforts have gone into making our website easy to navigate and shop, with speedy next day service. You can shop quickly, easily, and securely online 24-7 from the comfort of your own home – or simply give us a call to order by phone on 01768-891440 Mon-Fri 9am-5pm.
We do miss seeing you but you can keep in touch with the alpaca family through Facebook and Instagram.
If you are in the area and can’t resist a feel of our sumptuously soft alpaca goods, then please call us to make an appointment, or if you are already here, come and knock on the door and we will be pleased to welcome you if we can.
Get a little taste of Peru and discover all things alpaca in our family run unique two-storey shop here at the gateway to the Lakes. As leading specialists in Alpaca garments, we have sourced luxurious clothing, accessories, gifts and homeware made from this exquisite fibre. Our core collection is our range of women’s and men’s alpaca knitwear and accessories all made in Peru, the home of the Alpaca. From hats, scarves and gloves to slippers and socks, we’ll keep you warm from head to toe. Many of our garments are hand made by skilled artisans who have had knowledge and skills passed down from generations working with this wonderful fibre.
You’ll also find our popular fun children’s cardigans illustrating scenes from everyday Peruvian life - they’re bright, bold and beautiful and children look adorable in them. There are accessories for the home too including ethically sourced alpaca fur rugs, alpaca throws, and cushion covers. Unearth the incredible skills of the Peruvian artisans in our gift range of hand-knitted alpacas and hand painted musical instruments. We have become known for our handmade fur teddy bears…it’s impossible to explain just how super-soft these are, you’ll have to come and have a feel for yourself!
Aside from Alpaca, we have welcomed some other popular well-known brands too. We are stockists of premium German brand Brax Feel Good. Known for their outstanding quality and as trouser specialists, there are styles and fits to suit all. We have a wide range of quality leather bags, purses, belts and wallets too from Nova Leathers and Prime Hide. We also showcase incredible sculptures from Harmonies in Wood created using wood and beautiful fused glass in the form of bowls, candle holders, landscape panels and more. And last but by no means least, Scottish brand Powder has brightened our shelves even more with their quirky scarves, hats and gloves and socks that all come with beautiful complementary packaging.
Homemade cakes and local coffee are at the very heart of our tearoom. Offering our signature cafetiere of coffee, often commented on as ‘the best in the Lakes!’. We also offer a variety of teas, hot chocolate (with all the trimmings if you wish!), and cold drinks. You won’t be able to resist a yummy slice of cake or even a fresh scone. Sit inside and admire the shop or relax outside in our new seating area.
Just a short distance from the shop you can walk to see our small herd of alpacas and a miniature donkey. There is no charge to see our animals but we do welcome donations which we alternate between The Donkey Sanctuary and The North Air Ambulance, two fantastic charities. In winter months the visiting times to our animals may stop around 3pm as it’s important they are inside in bad weather for warmth and protection.
Our other family business
We also have our other family business G&S Timber next door which has just undergone a major expansion and refurbishment with a larger showroom and shop to showcase their growing range of tools and manufactured hardwood products. They are also stockists of Little Greene paint and wallpaper and the only stockists in Cumbria to be able to mix paint on-site.
